Choctaw Central advances

DECATUR Pillow Academy found out what the public schools of Mississippi have known for a long time…the Choctaw Central Lady Warriors are bad news when it comes to high school basketball.
In a State Games semifinal at Newton County High School, the Lady Warriors advanced to today's gold medal game by knocking off the Pillow girls.
No final score or individual scoring was available.
Choctaw Central won Pool IV, while Pillow won Pool III.
The Lady Warriors are the defending State Games champions. They beat Newton 53-50 and Lake 57-40 in Saturday's earlier games.
Choctaw Central looks to claim another gold medal today.
Choctaw Central and MHS face off at 1:30 p.m. at Meridian Community College's Ivy Sports Center.

Newton County's Andrea Dubose and Lake's Valerie Harris put on a scoring clinic with Dubose racking up 40 points and still finishing second to Harris' 41. Dubose connected on seven 3-pointers with Harris getting her total from close range and the foul line.
Newton County also got 19 points from Nesha Ramsey.
Arnita Lay had 15 points for Lake.

Mystee Dale scored 17 points and Chantay Frazier had 16 to lead Choctaw Central past Newton.
Newton got 13 points from Jessica Anderson, nine each from Nicole Williams and Tawaytha Evans, and eight from Karmashea Jones.

Lake 40
Mystee Dale led Choctaw Central with 19 points, while Chantay Frazier scored 12 and Kelly Willis added 11.
Lake got 17 points from Valerie Harris and 10 from Courtney Norris.

Durant 0
Newton picked up a forfeit win over Durant, which did not show up for the tournament.

Meagan Webb scored 16 points, Clansey Flautt had 15, and Mary Harper tossed in nine to lead Pillow past Newton.
Newton got 11 points from Whitney Thames, eight from Karmashea Jones, and seven from Jessica Anderson.

The Pillow girls got a forfeit over the no-show Durant squad.

South Pike 45
Newton County got 14 points from Andrea Dubose, 10 from Betina McDougle, and eight from Chan Moore in beating South Pike.

Brittany Fultz scored 19 points and Fredricia Gallager had nine to lead South Pike.

Pillow got another win the easy route as East Marion did not hang around for the contest after playing earlier in the day.
