Thousands of people are expected to attend Memorial Day services in Washington, D.C., on Monday after the official dedication of the World War II Memorial.
At the same time, hundreds are expected for Meridian's Memorial Day service at the Lauderdale County Courthouse in downtown.
The Meridian program begins at 10:30 a.m., with WTOK newsman Tom Daniels serving as master of ceremonies and The Sweet Spirits Choir providing entertainment.
Ken Storms, Meridian's chief administrative officer and a Vietnam veteran, will be the guest speaker during a ceremony that will pay tribute to veterans who served and are currently serving the country.
As part of the program, the names of the veterans that appear on the monument at the courthouse will be read aloud. Those names will include Mabry, who was killed in the Sunni Muslim town of Ramadi, Iraq.
The Memorial Day program is being organized by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 79.
