MCC Lady Eagles ready to kick off first-year women's soccer program

The time has finally arrived and the Meridian Community College Lady Eagles are ready to get their first year of soccer kicked off.
Meridian's first-year women's soccer program will get the season rolling on Wednesday when it travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to take on Shelton State.
The team has made a lot of progress and seems to be looking forward to the upcoming year.
One problem with a new program is that it's hard to tell early in the year what the strengths of the team will be. According to George, he is having to work on getting a feel for the team.
Another problem with a new program is the players are usually inexperienced on the junior college level. MCC is no exception and will be very young this season. Morgan Wright, Tashiana Logan and Anne McLean will be the only sophomores on the squad this season.
The team and George are focusing their attention at this point on getting the defense ready.
The keepers for the team will be Charlsie Bufkin and McLean. Both may also see action at fullback. Also playing fullback for the team will be Logan, Lindsey Key and Lisa Needler. Jodi Cooper will probably be playing a lot of sweeper for the team.
It's hard to tell at this point in the season who some of the big leaders on the defense, as well as the offense, will be.
The team should be very deep this season and a lot of players should see time on the field during the year.
The team will compete against Gulf Coast, Co-Lin, Jones County, and Pearl River in the south division play. The Lady Eagles also play two games against Shelton State and are working on getting a game with Bossier Parish.
