The C.B. "Dough" and Alice Rawlings Scholarship recipient for the spring semester at Meridian Community College is Kenyachtta Robinson of West Point.
Norma Rawlings Webb of Birmingham, Ala., funds the $500 per semester award through the MCC Foundation in memory of her parents.
A freshman studying in the University Transfer Program, Robinson plans to pursue a degree in sports medicine. At West Point High School, he was nominated for the McDonald's All-American basketball team and was a finalist in the school's Who's Who contest.
Robinson works under the supervision of Sander Atkinson, wellness and fitness instructor and sports trainer at the college.
Brett Holloway of Lauderdale has been named the Maude Reid History Scholarship recipient at Meridian Community College.
Frank Charles Winstead of Magnolia, Texas, funds the $500 per semester award through the MCC Foundation.
Holloway, 20, is a sophomore in the University Transfer Program. He plans to pursue a degree in education and teach history and art. He placed second in Design at the Spring 2001 Art Competition at MCC. He works part time and is a member of Cathedral Assembly of God Church.
Latoya Harrison of Union is the recipient of the Catherine Hovious Memorial Nursing Scholarship at Meridian Community College.
The $1,000 award is funded by an endowment established by the Rush Foundation Hospital Alumnae Association through the MCC Foundation. Hovious was a certified nurse anesthetist at the hospital and was instrumental in originating the nursing program at MCC.
A sophomore in the Associate Degree Nursing Program, Harrison will graduate in December. In addition to her class work, she works part time and is the single parent of two children. She is a member of the Organization of Student Nurses. She plans to continue her education and work toward her bachelor of nursing degree.
Lamar Elementary has named students to its honors and highest honors lists for the school year's third nine weeks.
Fourth- and fifth-graders are the only elementary grades that are eligible for the lists.
Highest honors are those students who earned an "A" in every course. Honors students have earned an "A" and "B" in classes.
The highest honors students in fourth-grade are: Anna Rose Abangan, Bo Bidgood, Sarah Catherine Billups, Hannah Cockrell, Bryan Epps, John Holland, Easton Key, Laurel Pass, Mary Anna Smith, Jamie Thompson and Greg Webb.
The honors students in fourth-grade are: Haley Betherum, Keller Blackwell, Beau Burns, Madelyn Denton, Kyla Dickman, Kailie Dunlap, Britten Feldman, Whit Haggard, Jennifer Lagendijk, Joey Lawn, Joyce Catherine Neville, Bailey Smith and Sean Smith.
The highest honors students in fifth-grade are: Clay Booth, Amanda Bridges, Mary Grace Cady, Brittany Davis, Jennie Fisher, Douglas Fort, Hallie Majure Phillips, Megan Porter, Shelby Richardson, Jamey Sharman, Staci Vice and Allyson Webb.
The honors students in fifth-grade are: Kayla Allen, Scott Bounds, Margaret Cady, Lindsay Cobb, Sarah Dungan, Brandon Gates, Anna Keller, Ben Pearson, Ally Anne Phillips, Robert Thomas and Mary Lela Valentine.
