Pickering, Lott announce loans, grants for water association

WASHINGTON U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering and U.S. Sen. Trent Lott announced on Tuesday U. S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development loans and grants for the Wake Forest Water Association Inc. in Sturgis and the town of Decatur.
The USDA Rural Development loan for Wake Forest Water Association in Sturgis is for $420,000 and the grant is for $255,000. The Rural Development funds will be used to install a 100,000 gallon elevated water tank and eight miles of water distribution line in Sturgis.
The loan for Decatur is for $560,900 and the grant is for $435,900. In Decatur, the Rural Development funds will be used to install a 350 gallon-per-minute well and a treatment plant to provide better service to approximately 520 users. The proposed improvements are designed to correct existing deficiencies and to allow for reserve capacity for reasonable growth.
Pickering, the Republican 3rd District congressman, said that the money for Decatur "will bring improved service to more than 500 users in the area."
Lott, the Senate minority leader, said that providing quality community water service is "essential to sustaining public health and providing the infrastructure needed for new residential and commercial growth."
