Local tourism planners to hold quarterly meeting
The Lauderdale County Tourism Bureau will hold its quarterly meeting for event planners at 5:30 p.m. today. The meeting will be at the Meeting Place, next to the McRae's entrance at Bonita Lakes Mall.
The guest speaker will be George McMillan, president of McMillan Associates of Birmingham. Anyone interested in event planning is invited to attend. Call the Tourism Bureau at 482-8001 to register.
Business lobbies for tort reform
Representatives of the National Federation of Independent Business will visit Meridian on Wednesday as part of a statewide outreach to encourage small business owners to push for tort reform. The meeting will be 7:30 a.m. at Luigi's Restaurant, 910 Highway 19 North. It is open to the public. For information, call Ron Aldridge at (601) 355-6696.
Flu vaccines available
The Lauderdale County Health Department will hold a special flu and pneumonia vaccine clinic for high-risk individuals from 8 a.m.-3p.m. Wednesday. The cost is $10, and the fee can be paid by Medicare or Medicaid.
Neshoba cattlemen's association to meet
The Neshoba County Cattlemen's Association will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Neshoba County Coliseum. A nominating committee, which will choose candidates for vice president and two board positions for 2002, will be selected. Pre-register by noon Thursday; call 656-3463, 656-3501 or 656-4602.
Register now for 2001 Veterans Day parade
The deadline to register for Meridian's Veterans Day Parade is Friday. The parade will be 3 p.m. Nov. 11. Applications are available at Meridian Chief Administrative Officer Ken Storm's office in City Hall, 601 24th Ave.
Pumpkin Patch' opens today
The 3rd annual "Pumpkin Patch" will begin today and continue through Oct. 31 at Oakland Heights United Methodist Church.
Pumpkins will sell for 50 cents to $25. Money raised will go to the Lauderdale County Habitat for Humanity and relief efforts in New York and Washington. School tours and activities will take place again this year from 10 a.m. to dark Monday-Saturday. Sunday hours are noon until dark.
Teachers interested in tours can contact the church office at 485-5262.
Child Safety Day set for Saturday
A Child Safety Day will take place Saturday from 12:30 p.m.-4 p.m. at Magna Home Health. Puppet shows for children 3-10 will take place every half-hour. There will be clowns, cotton candy, popcorn, snowballs and door prizes.
The event is presented by Magna Home Health of Mississippi and Primary Home Care of Alabama. Magna Home Health is on Highway 19 North, next to Wal-Mart. For information, call 484-6726.
MHS Booster Club holds fund-raiser
The Meridian High School Boys Basketball Booster Club will sponsor a "draw-down" in connection with the annual Blue-White Game and Meet the Wildcats Night. The event will be Saturday, with the celebrity game at 6 p.m. in the basketball gym. Tickets to the "draw-down" are $20. Admission to the game is free.
King's Academy holds fund-raiser
King's Academy volunteers will sponsor a rummage sale from 6 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Church of the Way on State Boulevard Extension. All money raised will benefit the school.
NAMI sponsors golf tournament
The National Association of the Mentally Ill will sponsor the 6th Annual NAMI Mississippi Golf Tournament Saturday. The four-person scramble will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Lakeview Golf Course. The fee is $50 a person; proceeds will benefit NAMI. To register, call 693-3301.
Area schools to take part in Prayer Walk'
In an effort to promote peace and stop the violence on school campuses, area churches are participating in a county Prayer Walk.
The walk will be from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. Saturday on each school campus in Meridian and Lauderdale County. The public is invited to attend.
Ageless Heroes' program seeks local nominations
Nominations will be accepted until Oct. 26 for the Mississippi "Ageless Heroes" program.
