OBITUARIES FOR SUNDAY, SEPT. 23, 2001

NITA HAMMOND SIMS

KOSCIUSKO Services for Nita Hammond Sims will be held today at 3 p.m. at Williamsville Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jerry East and Larry Harvey officiating. Burial will be in Parkway Cemetery with Jordan Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sims, 89, of Kosciusko, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include three sons, Earl Sims and Ralph Sims, both of Kosciusko, and Ronnie Sims of Meridian; a daughter, Emily Sims Busbea, and a sister, Katherine Burns, both of Kosciusko; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Sims, and a daughter, Charlotte Sims Bane.
RACHEL CHARLENE APPERSON
Services for Rachel Charlene Apperson will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Malcolm Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Apperson, 53, of Meridian, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Ala. She was a member of Northcrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include her father, Roy T. Whitley, and her husband, Ken Apperson, both of Meridian; a son, John Thomas Rue and his wife, Cynthia, and two grandsons, Jonathan Daniel Rue and Adam Thomas Rue, all of Collinsville; three sisters, Sandra Johnson, Thelma Morrison and Barbra Thompson, all of the Zero community; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Myrtie Litchfield Whitley.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
MARY A. GORDON
Retired from East Mississippi State Hospital
Services for Mary A. Gordon will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jimmie Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Garden Cemetery with Berry and Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Gordon, 56, of Meridian, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2001, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbindale, Minn.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Gordon, two daughters, Tonia Royal and her husband, Jerry, and Cassandra Boddie and her husband, Dale, all of Meridian; a son, Ellington Dewayne Mercer, a sister, Sarah Turnipseed, and a brother, Grady Darrell, all of Minneapolis; and seven grandchildren, La Shanda Boddie, Ra Sheda Boddie, Antoine Boddie, Kenyatta Gaines, Sabrina Royal and Citiffani Clark, all of Meridian; and Jade Love of Memphis, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Private visitation for family members only will be held Monday from 7 p.m.-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements were incomplete at James F. Webb Funeral Home for Thelma Ford, 99, of Meridian, who died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at King's Daughters and Sons Rest Home.
