    OBITUARIES FOR THURSDAY, AUG. 2, 2001

    LYDA FLORENCE CLARK WALKER

    Services for Lyda Florence Clark Walker were held Wednesday at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sam Hull officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Ala., with Elmwood Chapel of Birmingham in charge of arrangements.
    Ms. Walker, 104, of Meridian, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Rush Foundation Hospital. She was a member of South Side Baptist Church of Birmingham. She was born in Kemper County, married and lived in Birmingham for 70 years. Ms. Walker returned to Meridian in 1988 to live with her niece.
    Survivors include seven nieces, Doris Brown, Birdie Holloway and Clara Johnson, all of Meridian, Lorena McGrew of Collinsville, Lucy Henry of South Port, N.C., Betty Jean Lindsay of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Jimmie Lee Mercer of Alpharetta, Ga.; two nephews, John C. Oden of Meridian and W. Arthur Odom of Stone Mountain, Ga.; a brother-in-law, Jack Walker of Birmingham, Ala.; a large number of great, great-great and great-great-great-nieces and nephews; and a loyal housekeeper, cook and friend for more than 30 years, Ernestine Allison.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Cumbe Walker; her father, James Edward Clark and her mother, Willie Ann Hopper Clark.
    The family requests memorials be made to a favorite charity.

    Services for Laura T. Armstrong were held Wednesday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Cameron officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Enterprise Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
    Mrs. Armstrong, 94, of Enterprise, died Friday, July 27, 2001, in Enterprise.
    Survivors include a daughter, Aretha White; a brother, Estell Walk; a sister, Elmira Fielder of Meridian; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Armstrong.
    MARK DEVERS
    Carpenter
    SEBASTOPOL Graveside services for Mark Devers were held today at 10 a.m. at Salem Cemetery with Brett Cooper officiating. Milling Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
    Mr. Devers, 30, of Randolph, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at his home. He was a carpenter and construction worker.
    Survivors include his wife, Theresa Darlene Ralph of Randolph; a daughter, Kayla Michelle Devers of Randolph; a son, John Tyler Devers of Walnut Grove; his parents, Audean and Johnny Lawerence Devers of Sebastopol; four sisters, Anita Culpepper of Panama, Fla., Kimberly Devers of Sebastopol, Rita Wright of Oxford, Ala. and Kathy Sue Holderman of Indianapolis, Ind.; two brothers, John Devers of Taladega, Ala. and Johnny Devers II of Pascagoula and a grandmother, Patty B. Sistrunk of Sebastopol.
    BETTY ANN MOFFETT

    QUITMAN Services for Betty Ann Moffett were held today at 10 a.m. at Wright's Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Johnny Mosley and Johnny Smith officiating. Burial was in New Bethel Cemetery.
    Mrs. Moffett, 43, of Meridian, died Monday, July 30, 2001, at her home. She was a secretary for Metro Realty.
    Survivors include a son, Chris Martin; a daughter, Jennifer Davis; a brother, Dell Smith and her parents, Mary and Roger Smith.
    She was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Smith.
    GENEVA SMITH
    Retired Burlington Textile
    QUITMAN Services for Geneva Smith will be held today at 2 p.m. at Rolling Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Soesby and Clay Chancellor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
    Mrs. Smith, 81, of Stonewall, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at H.C. Watkins Memorial Hospital. She was a retired employee of Burlington Textile.
    Survivors include three daughters, Lavern Cook of Quitman, Frances Stanley of Heidelberg and Betty Hebert of Rose Hill; a son, Billy Smith of Stonewall; two sisters, Belma Adams of Gilbertown, Ala. and Florence Gilbert of Quitman; a brother, Earl Mozingo of Quitman; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
    Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
    JOHN EARNEST LEWIS III
    Retired from General Motors
    Services for John Earnest Lewis III will be held today at 3 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Hickory Cemetery in Newton County.
    Mr. Lewis, 55, of Meridian, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
    Survivors include his wife, Iva Mae "Patsy" Lewis of Meridian; a son, John E. Lewis IV of Lansing, Mich.; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two nephews and a niece.
    Pallbearers will be Johnny Burks, Dewayne Parten, Jared Parton, Jason Ryles, Joey McElhanney and Mike Chandler.
    Visitation will be today from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. at the funeral home.
