Grand jury charges 2 in child porn case

RUSSELLVILLE — The next time Abigail Roberts enters a courtroom will be to say whether she is guilty or not guilty of charges ranging from first-degree sodomy to possession of child pornography.

A Franklin County grand jury has issued a 106-count indictment charging the 22-year-old with 30 counts of possession of child pornography with the intent to disseminate, 30 counts of possession of child pornography, 30 counts of production of child pornography, 11 counts of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old, three counts of first degree sodomy, and one count each of directing a child to engage in sexual intercourse or sodomy, and enticing a child into a room for immoral purposes.

Roberts, who is initially from Georgia, was arrested April 12 after Franklin County Sheriff’s investigators received a complaint from the mother of a 6-year-old alleging her daughter had been sodomized and had nude photos taken of her.

Investigators received a warrant to search Roberts’ phone and found several photos of the 6-year-old on her phone.

During a preliminary hearing for Roberts in April, sheriff’s Investigator Clint Holcombe testified as to what Roberts allegedly did with the 6-year-old. Two female inmates, who were there for separate court hearings, were seen crying and shaking their heads while listening to Holcombe.

Roberts told Holcombe she and her boyfriend were in the area and had “made the acquaintance of” the victim’s mother. She also said she had been living with the victim and her family for approximately three weeks in Tharptown.

Roberts told investigators she had known the victim’s family for at least three years.

The grand jury also issued an indictment charging Roberts’ alleged boyfriend with 75 criminal counts ranging from production of child pornography to first-degree sodomy.

Michael Clinton Chambers

Michael Clinton Chambers, 26, of Bowden, Georgia, faces 30 counts of production of child pornography, 30 counts of possession with the intent to distribute child pornography, 11 counts of sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old, three counts of first degree sodomy, and one count of directing a child to engage in sexual intercourse or sodomy.

Clinton was booked into the Franklin County Jail on April 23 after he was located in Carrollton, Georgia.

Clinton and Roberts remain in jail without bond.

Their arraignments are scheduled for June 24.
