RHS loses 4 in Showdown
The Russellville Lady Golden Tigers spent a portion of spring break participating in the Pleasure Island Showdown tournament held at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.
RHS (12-13-1) played six games over three days, going 1-4-1 in their outings.
First up was a 3-3 tie with the Chattanooga Christian (Tennessee) Chargers. Russellville’s Khristyan Huerta had a triple and Chloe James added a double in the game. The only RBI for Russellville was by Bri McCulloch.
Taitum Bishop pitched all six innings for the Lady Tigers, striking out nine batters and allowing just three hits.
The second game on April 2 was a 4-1 loss to Siegel of Tennessee.
Bishop had two hits and the only Russellville RBI to lead the team. Sadie Odom and Jonalyn Thorn also hit safely for RHS. Russellville’s pitchers were Kaylee Suggs and MacKenzie Wright.
RHS started the day on April 3 with a 21-0 win over the Franklin Monroe Lady Jets from Pitsburg, Ohio.
Russellville’s Suggs and Wright allowed no hits during the three-inning game.
Alexia Groce went 3-for-3 with three doubles and three RBIs while Blevyn Sappington also went 3-for-3 with one RBI. Additional Russellville players with multiple hits were Ticelee Ghoston, McCulloch, Brandtley Benford, Huerta and Erin Grimes. McCulloch, Huerta and Grimes added two RBIs each.
April 3’s second game was an 8-1 loss to Wicksburg.
Gholston, Bishop, Sappington and Groce had the four RHS hits and Bishop had the only Russellville RBI.
Suggs and Wright did the pitching during the five-inning contest.
Russellville completed play on April 3 with a 4-0 loss to Baker. Gholston had two hits and Huerta added one.
Bishop pitched all five innings for RHS.
The Lady Golden Tigers finished the tournament with a 5-4 loss April 4 to the Pointers of Mineral Point, Wisconsin.
RHS got two hits from Huerta, including a double, and additional hits by Gholston, McCulloch, Suggs and Groce.
Bishop was in the pitching circle for Russellville.
