Red Bay shuts out Lamar County

The Red Bay Tigers didn’t allow a run while sweeping the Lamar County Bulldogs in an area series. The Tigers beat the Bulldogs 8-0 and 1-0.

In game one, Red Bay broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run homer by Jeremiah Thorn. The Tigers led 3-0 at the end of the third. The Tigers proceeded to score in each of the remaining innings to go on to win 8-0.

Carson McGee allowed just two hits and struck out nine in the win.

Jaxson Swann and Landyn Lewey both doubled.

Game two was a classic pitcher’s duel with Thorne getting the upper hand and coming very close to a perfect game. Thorne allowed no hits, no walks and struck out nine. One error halted his chance for a perfect game.

Red Bay had only one hit in the game, an RBI double in the fourth by McGee scoring Thorne.

Tupelo Christian 2 Red Bay 1

Thorne doubled and scored on McGee’s single in the fourth for two of the three hits by Red Bay (12-5) in Friday’s loss to Tupelo (Mississippi) Christian.

Tharptown 23 Cherokee 2

Christopher Fretwell had three hits, scored three times and drove in four runs to spark the Wildcats (5-11) to a big win on Thursday. Christgin Willoughby scored four runs and Drake Massey scored three times, while Tharptown took advantage of 15 walks. Weslee Cosgrove led the Indians (0-13-1) with a hit and a run.

Lynn 12 Belgreen 11

The Bulldogs’ sixthand seventh-inning rallies fell short in Thursday’s loss. Trailing 12-4 going to the bottom of the sixth, Belgreen (12-8) scored four times in the sixth and added three runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. The Bulldogs had the tying run on second base and the winning run on first before Lynn got the final out. Easton Mitchell’s three RBIs lead Belgreen. Rush Berryman had three hits and scored three times, while Colton Ashton had three hits and scored twice.

Tharptown 3 Vina 2

The Tharptown Wildcats defeated county rival Vina 3-2 last week.

Tharptown scored three runs on four hits. Vina had five hits but couldn’t score enough runs to win.

Jackson Knighten got the win for Tharptown.
