RHS volleyball team pushes record to 17-5

The busy week for the Russellville volleyball team was highlighted by a home match against county rival Phil Campbell, the first area match of the season at Lawrence County, and the RVL Spike Fest Tournament.

RHS hosted the Lady Bobcats on Sept. 2 and the Lady Golden Tigers won 2-0 by scores of 25-13 and 25-14.

Russellville’s Fatima Ramirez had nine assists and three digs; Blevyn Sappington had six kills and five digs; Alexia Groce had four assists and one dig; Laila Hill had five kills; Bri McCulloch had four digs; Erin Grimes had three aces; and Brookelynn Davis had three kills and one dig.

Earlier in the evening, Russellville defeated Deshler 2-1 by scores of 27-25, 15-25 and 15-10.

The Lady Golden Tigers went to Lawrence County on Sept. 4 to open Class 5A Area 15 play. The Lady Red Devils took the win 3-0 by scores of 25-10, 25-20 and 25-21.

That same evening, Russellville defeated Danville 2-1 by scores of 25-19, 21-25 and 15-10.

Versus Danville, Ramirez had three kills, nine assists and nine digs; Sappington added five kills and 13 digs; Bella Malone had four kills and three digs; Groce added 15 assists and six digs; Hill had nine kills and two digs; McCulloch added six kills and 22 digs; Grimes added eight digs; Adaleigh Smith had three digs; and Davis had three digs.

Russellville hosted the RVL Spike Fest on Sept. 5 and the Lady Golden Tigers finished in second place behind Covenant Christian.

RHS defeated Colbert Heights 2-0 by scores of 25-13 and 25-12 to open the tournament. Then, the Lady Golden Tigers beat Meek 2-0 by scores of 28-26 and 25-17.

Next, RHS topped Marion County 2-0 by scores of 25-22 and 25-21 before falling in the championship match of the tourney to Covenant. The Lady Eagles won the contest 2-1 by scores of 25-23, 17-25 and 15-13.

RHS currently has a record of 17-5 on the season.
