Tharptown hires White as football coach

RUSSELLVILLE – A new era is underway for Tharptown High School football as veteran coach David White steps in as the Wildcats new head coach.

White brings 37 years of coaching experience to Tharptown, having honed his craft on the sidelines in both Mississippi and Tennessee. His resume includes 21 years serving as a defensive coordinator and nine years as a head coach.

A graduate of the South Panola High School in Mississippi, White’s football journey continued with collegiate stops at the University of North Alabama (UNA), Northeast Mississippi Community College, and Mississippi State University.

When asked what drew him to the Tharptown community, White pointed to a blend of familiar comforts and an exciting new challenge.

“There are multiple factors that attracted me to Tharptown,” White said. “Seeing cows and chickens when you ride down the road reminds me of back home in middle Mississippi.”

Beyond the country charm, the opportunity to guide and grow a program resonated deeply with White’s experience.

“Secondly, I have enjoyed multiple opportunities to either lead or be on the staff in situations where program building was the task at hand, and that is the task here as well,” White said.
