Parole denied for 2 Franklin inmates

MONTGOMERY – Paroles for two inmates serving time for Franklin County crimes have been denied, according to the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles.

The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles turned down parole requests from Troy Eugene Dawson and Scott Alan Hawkins, authorities said.

Dawson, 52, is serving a 20-year sentence on convictions of second- degree assault, third-degree burglary and first-degree theft of property in Franklin County and third-degree robbery in Colbert County, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

The sentences are being served concurrently, with the burglary and theft ones carrying the 20-year sentences. The assault was a 6½-year sentence and the robbery was a sentence of 3 years and 9 months, according to corrections records.

He has served 15 years, 10 months and 17 days of his sentence as of Tuesday, according to the department.

Dawson also has a prior conviction on third-degree burglary in Colbert County. He served 8 months and 5 days of a two-year sentence in that case.

Hawkins, 60, is serving a 30-year sentence on conviction of two counts of first-degree attempted assault and two counts of third-degree burglary, according to corrections records.

He has served 7 years, 10 months and 20 days of the sentence as of Tuesday, according to the department.

He also has prior convictions on seconddegree domestic violence and second-degree theft of property in Lauderdale County.
