Franklin County Arts Council receives grant for Spectacular

The Franklin County Arts and Humanities Council has received a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts to help support “The Roxy’s Christmas Spectacular,” which will be held Dec. 9-12.

The Arts Council board was very encouraged to receive this grant, since last year’s show was canceled because of COVID-19. The Historic Roxy Theatre was closed for 15 months because of the pandemic.  The grant of $8,300 was much appreciated and needed for the reopening of the theatre and for providing professional productions such as “The Roxy’s Christmas Spectacular.”   

This grant signifies that through this project, the Franklin County Arts and Humanities Council is making Alabama’s communities stronger and our state’s arts and culture sector more vibrant.

This grant means a lot to the Arts Council because it will help to fulfill our mission to serve the community through promoting the arts and enhancing the economic vitality of our city, county and state.

The grant was made possible through funding from an annual appropriation from the Alabama State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts. This public support enables the Franklin County Arts Council to reach new audiences, foster community development, provide the highest quality programming and demonstrate the importance of arts as a key component for quality of life in Alabama.

The Franklin County Arts and Humanities Council’s board of directors is made up of volunteers who receive no compensation of any kind. Funding consists of donations, fundraising and grants, as well as local and state legislators.

Sen. Larry Stutts and Rep. Jamie Kiel have been supportive in assisting the Arts Council with these grants.

The Alabama State Council on the Arts is the official state agency for the support and development of the arts in Alabama. The Council works to expand and preserve the state’s cultural resources by supporting non-profit arts organizations, schools, colleges, units of local government and individual artists.

Arts programs assisted by Council grants have a track record of enhancing community development, education, cultural tourism and overall quality of life in all regions of the state.
