Bobcat baseball dominates opener

Phil Campbell traveled south of the snow to Curry Saturday to play Addison and Curry to open baseball season.

The Bobcats, projected to be one of the top Class 3A teams in the state, made an early opening statement, shutting out both opponents. Phil Campbell beat Addison 10-0 and Curry 13-0.

Ridge Raper got the two-hit shutout against Addison, going four innings and striking out eight batters.

Mason Swinney got the win against Curry, striking out seven and combining with Luke Barnwell to no-hit the Yellow Jackets.

Newcomer John Miller Lawson shined at the plate for the Phil Campbell Bobcats to open their baseball season. The Haleyville transfer went seven-for-eight in the two games with a three-run home run and five RBIs.

In the Addison game, Lawson, Swinney and Austen Baker all went three-for-four. Baker hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning. Baker and Swinney had two RBIs each. Lawson, Baker, Swinney and Bryant Hyde each doubled. Trey Liendecker doubled twice.

In the Curry game, Lawson went four-for-four with four RBIs, including a three-run homer in the top of the seventh inning. Bryant Anthony went two-for-four with a double and three RBIs.
