Art contest raises drug abuse awareness

The prevention department at Riverbend Center for Mental Health is hosting an art contest that is open to Franklin County children as well as Lauderdale and Colbert County children.

The purpose of the “A World Without Drugs” art contest, according to a Riverbend representative, is to help children in the community understand their role as citizens and teach them what it means to help to reduce and prevent prescription drug misuse, use and abuse – while providing them the opportunity to promote a drug-free community.

Rules for the contest and coloring sheets can be found at the Weatherford Library, where art submissions are also being received.

Entries must be submitted by 2 p.m. July 12.

Contact the library from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 256-356-9255 for more information.
