RCS introduces new Spring Sing
The Russellville City Schools Performing Arts Department is rolling out a new show this year: Spring Sing. It will be held May 9 at 7 p.m. in the RCS Auditorium. Tickets will be $10 for adults and $5 for children and can be purchased in advance or at the door.
This program is new for the high school and new in regards to themes the department has incorporated in the past. Instructor Emily Rush said it will be a Latin American-inspired show.
“We’ve been wanting to do a Latin American-inspired show for quite a while,” she said.
Another new facet of this show is the incorporation of community members and students outside of the performing arts classes. Two female students from RHS will be performing traditional Latin American dances, complete with culturally accurate clothing. Local musician Kerry Gilbert will also be taking the stage with the students, performing a solo part of one of the two songs by the Youth Choir Camp students.
“I would love to feature someone from the community every year,” Rush said.
The Youth Choir Camp will take place May 6-7 for 60 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. They will be performing two songs from the hit movie “Coco” – “Remember Me” and “Un Poco Loco.” They will also be performing a dance to the song “Un Poco Loco.”
“We’re trying to embrace our community,” Rush said. “We want to learn about other people who have talents in the community.”
Performing arts have become a tradition at RCS, and Rush said she is hoping this Spring Sing is something new students will grow and build on in the years to come.
