Phil Campbell boys compete in Brooks Invitational

The Phil Campbell Bobcats built a massive first-quarter lead over Colbert County in the Brooks Invitational but couldn’t hang on, losing 87-84 in overtime.

“We are still growing,” said Phil Campbell coach Brett Thomas. “We are a very young team that has made mistakes. I think we are cutting some of those out.

“We have competed well,” Thomas added. “We’ve been in three overtime games (Belgreen, Colbert County and Tharptown). We’ve lost some close games; we just need to figure out how to close out games down the stretch and learn how to win.”

Phil Campbell jumped out to a big 28-7 lead over the Indians, but Colbert County outscored the Bobcats the rest of the way to force the overtime.

Nate Owens led Phil Campbell with 21 points and was followed by Brett Saint with 17 points. Isaac Riddle and Austen Baker scored 14 points each for the Bobcats. Luke Garrison and Easton Cummings added seven points each. Ben Williams had four points.
