NW-SCC hosts Veterans Day Tribute
According to public information officer Trent Randolph, who organized the event, Hargett used to work at the college as director of security.
“I asked him to speak two or three years ago at a Veterans Day program, and he did such a great job that we thought the students and employees would really be inspired by his message,” Randolph said.
Hargett served two deployments aboard the USS John F. Kennedy in the Mediterranean Sea and completed his tenure as an Aviation Ordnanceman, 3rd Class. He also worked in Alabama law enforcement for 40 years.
“Even if our students do not have a direct relationship with a veteran, most all of them know a veteran that is a family member, friend or family member of a friend. I think we all need to be reminded and show our appreciation to those men and women of the Armed Forces who have served and continue to serve our country,” Randolph said.
Along with Hargett’s speech, the NW-SCC Chorale performed the National Anthem and “America the Beautiful.” SGA President Deysi Hernandez led the Pledge of Allegiance and introduced Hargett as the speaker. NW-SCC Jazz Band member Alex Laman performed taps before associate dean Dr. Timmy James closed out the ceremony.
