Red Bay PD welcomes reserve officers

July 9 the Red Bay City Council recognized four new reserve officers for the police department before the business portion of the meeting began.

Patrick White, Britni Boyd, Candace Yurechko and Sandy Trotter are new reserve officers who recently completed the 70-hour training program.

Eddie Shelton, president of the reserve program, explained that these officers have been training since the beginning of March. Trainees have to attend every class and training available to them.

“They are trained just as an officer is, and the purpose of that is to put a reserve officer with a certified officer,” Shelton said.

It involves a lot of work, added Shelton, who said the reserve officers also have to buy their own belt, weapons and other equipment.

“I thank God for the privilege to be able to transfer the knowledge to them. They’ve done a great job,” Shelton said.

Mayor Charlene Fancher thanked Shelton and the reserve officers for volunteering their time to help serve the community.
