Tharptown tourney kicks off junior high basketball

The Phil Campbell Bobcats won three of the four divisions of the Tharptown Tip Off Tournament – a traditional, unofficial beginning of the junior high basketball season.
The Bobcats won the B-Junior girls, A-Junior girls and A-Junior boys divisions, while the Tharptown Wildcats won the B-Junior boys division.
The tournament featured teams from around the area, including Belgreen, East Franklin, Covenant Christian, Russellville, Tharptown and Phil Campbell.
Red Bay also hosted a tip-off tournament last week, with Brooks winning all the boys divisions and Deshler winning all the girls divisions.
The tournament at Red Bay included Red Bay, Brooks, Belgreen, Deshler, Winfield, Haleyville, Phil Campbell, Belgreen and many other teams.
