Leon Richard Pounders
Leon Richard Pounders went home to celebrate with his Lord Jesus on his 99th birthday, Aug. 18. He was born Aug. 18, 1918, to the late Aldo Cleveland and LaVada Pearl (Massey) Pounders.
Leon was a veteran of World War II, a Scottish Rite Mason and a long-time member of the Tremont Lion’s Club. He was a devoted member of Providence Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer of 55 years, and he loved driving a John Deere tractor. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He liked visiting with his friends at the “Liar’s Club” and making weekly visits to the Community Spirit Bank in Red Bay, for refreshments.
Leon is survived by his wife of almost 77 years, Margie Sue (Harrell) Pounders of Tremont; his son Gayre and wife Pat (Barnett) Pounders of Tremont; two granddaughters, Amy and husband Dwain Emerson of Hamilton and Audrey and husband Lee Wylie of Saltillo; three great-grandchildren, Drew Emerson, Kayden Wylie and Vada Wylie; and siblings Edith Collier, Sue Summerford, Billie Faye Newby, Bobby Pounders and Kenneth Pounders.
In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by his siblings Burl Pounders, Travis Pounders, Owen Pounders, Grace Davis, Margaret Inmon and Leatha Pounders.
