Vina scores non-tourney wins

Vina 3, Phillips 1

Erica Cantrell, Kaitlyn King and Anna Belle Upton each had an RBI in a 3-1 win over the Phillips Bears. Abby Hester scored twice on a walk and was hit by a pitch. She also picked up two of her 11 stolen bases for the week. Brooke Brown scored on a walk and a sacrifice by Cantrell. Cantrell was the winning pitcher.

Vina 16, Tremont 9

Vina scored eight runs in the first inning to take an 8-3 lead over Tremont.

Ashleigh Thompson and Brown each had a hit and two RBIs. Hester and Baylee Hutcheson each had a hit and an RBI in the first inning. Hester picked up two more of her four RBIs in the second inning on a single to centerfield, and Vina Red Devils increased their lead to 10-3 in the fourth inning.

Hannah Johnson had a single and scored to give Vina an 11-4 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, after Tremont cut Vina’s lead to 11-8, Cantrell scored her second run of the night, and Maddie Raper scored one of her three runs. Greta Raper, Sarah Johnson and Hester all scored to increase Vina’s lead to 16-8. Cantrell was the winning pitcher.

Vina 18, Tremont 8

Vina took an 11-1 lead in the first inning in the team’s second win over Tremont. Hester, Upton, Greta Raper and Maddie Raper all scored twice in the inning. In the second inning, Kaitlyn King, Cantrell, Destiny Miller, Brown, Hester and Upton all scored on either a double by Brown or a triple by Cantrell. Tremont scored three in the third, and Sarah Johnson scored in the bottom of the third on a single by Hester and a sacrifice by Upton, to give the Red Devils an 18-4 lead. Vina held on to win 18-8 in five innings.

First baseman Hailey Cantrell had eight putouts on defense. Erica Cantrell was the winning pitcher.
