Red Bay sweeps Covenant Christian

The Red Bay Tigers earned a sweep last week over the Covenant Christian Eagles with two shutouts. The Tigers also picked up a shutout win over the Sheffield Bulldogs. Red Bay’s lone blemish was a tough loss to the Central Wildcats.

Red Bay 9, Covenant Christian 0

Chandler Allen didn’t allow a single run as the Red Bay Tigers defeated the Covenant Christian Eagles 9-0 Thursday. Allen allowed just three hits and ended the game with a strikeout.

Red Bay scored two runs in first inning. Kaleb Burroughs scored the first run on an error by Covenant Christian third baseman. The Tigers scored their second run when Hayden Murray reached third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Allen.

The Tigers scored in the third inning when Cade McKinney scored on a sacrifice fly by Landen Burgett, making the score 3-0. Red Bay extended the lead to 5-0 when Max Bullen and Burroughs scored on a Murray double.

Allen earned the win for Red Bay Tigers. He tossed seven innings, surrendering no runs and three hits and striking out 14.

Murray led Red Bay going three for three at the plate with three RBIs. Burroughs led the Tigers with three of the Tigers’ eight stolen bases.

Red Bay 5, Covenant Christian 0

Burgett pitched a no-hitter while shutting out the Covenant Christian Eagles 5-0 last week. He earned the win, pitching five innings allowing no runs and no hits, striking out eight and walking only one.

Red Bay picked up their first runs in the first inning, when Kaleb Burroughs scored on a passed ball and Burgett singled in Murray to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. The Tigers added a run in the fourth inning when Allen scored on a sacrifice by Alex Burroughs.

Red Bay rounded out their scoring in the top of the fifth inning. Bullen scored on an error by the Covenant Christian third baseman, and Allen scored on a passed ball.

Blake Hester led the way in the hit column for the Tigers, going two for three.

Red Bay 5, Sheffield 0

The Tigers scored their runs late in the game, but two pitchers combined for a 5-0 shutout of the Sheffield Bulldogs last week.

Skylar Brazil pitched four innings, allowing two hits, walking four and striking out three. Murray went three innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.

The game was scoreless through five innings, but the Tigers exploded for four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Jacob Lane scored on a single by Burgett for Red Bay’s first run. Kaleb Bragwell scored on a single by Brazil to make the score 2-0. With the bases loaded, both Burgett and Brazil scored to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead. Lane scored again in the top of the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly by Burgett.

Brazil went two for four in the game with an RBI and a run scored.

Central 14, Red Bay 7

The Red Bay Tigers jumped out to a quick lead, but a disastrous second inning put the Tigers in a hold they couldn’t climb out of, losing to the Central Wildcats 14-7.

Burroughs led the Tigers at the plate, going three for four, scoring two runs and knocking one runner in. Kaleb Bragwell had two hits.
