RBCEP hosts benefit for Hodges police officer
For years now, Hodges has been known for and prided itself on its giving spirit. This weekend, that spirit will be the driving force behind a special benefit for a Hodges reserve police officer.
Rock Bridge Canyon Equestrian Park is holding a benefit ride and Cowboy Mounted Shoot June 18 to show support of lifelong Hodges resident Connie Scott. Scott is the sole caregiver for her son Cody, who was born with cerebral palsy; on top of that, she was recently given the news that she has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer with tumors in her lungs and abdomen.
The benefit was park director and Police Chief Mike Franklin’s idea.
“He’s worked with her for several years, and she’s also been very supportive of the park,” said event coordinator Jenny Harris. “She’s always here when we need her.”
Festivities will begin at 8 a.m. when the park invites everyone to an open trail ride. A cost of $15 will allow riders to enjoy the trail for as long – or as short – as they would like.
From 1-2 p.m. the park will host a cake auction. Donation for the auction are welcome; they should be delivered to the camp store by noon.
A band from Haleyville, Call3d, will perform from 2-5 p.m. “They’re a contemporary Christian band,” Harris said.
The main event will be the Cowboy Mounted Shoot, beginning at 6 p.m. in the arena. All profits from the shoot, less money for awards and fees, will go to Scott, as will proceeds from the concession stand – which will open early, at noon. The shoot will last until about 9 p.m.
All volunteers and donations are welcome for this event to benefit Scott.
