Garden Club donates birdhouses to RES
For the past two years the Cultura Garden Club has collaborated with Donnie Nichols, agriscience technology instructor and FFA sponsor at Russellville High School, on a birdhouse project. The club buys the materials, and Nichols instructs his students in making the birdhouses each year. The Garden Club takes the birdhouses to different areas to be hung up and hopefully provide a place for birds to nest. Last year several were placed at City Lake Park, and this year the club chose to place them on the campus of Russellville Elementary School. The birdhouses built are favorites for the Eastern bluebird, which are sometimes referred to as the “sweethearts of the backyard.” The Eastern Bluebird male is a vivid royal blue on the back and head and a red-brown color on the breast, while the female is more grayish on the top.
