RCS board holds March meeting

The Russellville City Schools Board of Education approved the following items at its March meeting:

Facility Use Requests

1. RHS Field House –Future Business Leaders of America along with the Franklin County Arts & Humanities Council will sponsor the Ronnie McDowell Fan Club dinner April 16.

2. RHS Football Stadium and Facilities – The Franklin County Chapter of the American Cancer Society will sponsor the annual “Relay for Life” event May 6.

3. RHS Cafeteria – During June 20-24, the University of Mississippi’s Institute of Child Nutrition (ICN) will conduct culinary training classes for area Child Nutrition Managers.

4. Board Room – May 25, the Alabama Rural Water Association will conduct a training session for area water department employees.

5. Softball Facilities – During April 8-9, the RHS softball team will sponsor a tournament for the North Alabama Thunder 12 and under softball team as a fundraiser for their programs.

Trip Requests

RHS/RMS Robotics Team – During March 31 through April 2, the team will visit Cherokee Middle School in Cherokee, North Carolina.

Personnel

1. Retirements: Charlotte Townsend, special education aide, RMS

2. Leaves of Absence: Whitney Hodge, RES teacher; LeAnn Little, RES teacher; and Judi Fike, RHS SPE Aide

3. Temporary Employment: Rachel Bradford, WES; Cindy Bailey, RES

4. Employment in Supplement: Brittany Sykes, middle school softball

5. Substitutes: Tommy Bruton, Waymon Fike, Willie Joyce Leach and Monica Farris

6. Volunteer: 2016 middle school tennis teams, LeAnn Strickland

The board also approved a bid for improvements to the Russellville High School Athletic Field. Of five bids submitted, the board accepted Sprinturf’s low bid of $790,275.

The next regular meeting will be April 28 at 3:30 p.m., and the work session will be April 25 at 3:30 p.m.
