Vehicle blazes after collision

A two-car collision on Highway 13 in Spruce Pine Friday sent two to the hospital and left one vehicle in flames.

The driver of a brown, Ford F-150 pick-up truck, who was traveling north on Highway 13, near the Highway 43 junction, collided with a white SUV that attempted to enter the northbound lanes from the median, on Highway 20.

The truck’s driver, who was accompanied by her 20-year-old daughter and her mother, said she attempted to move into the outside lane to give the other driver room to enter the roadway, but the driver of the white SUV continued into oncoming traffic.

The truck spun in the roadway. The SUV flipped into the right-hand ditch; its driver was dragged out of the vehicle before it was engulfed in flames.

Phil Campbell’s fire and rescue responded to the scene.

The mother of the driver of the truck, and the driver of the SUV, were both transported by ambulance to receive medical care.

A full report on the crash was not available from Alabama State Troopers as of press time.
