Local groups hold chicken stew fundraisers

Several local groups are planning ever-popular chicken stew sales:

– At the Tharptown Volunteer Fire Department, 23 Highway 80, Russellville, Nov. 14. The chicken stew plate with crackers and a drink will be $3; cost is $2 a bowl and $20 a gallon. For more information call Chief Doug Coan at 256-810-6460.

– Nov. 21 at the Frankfort Community Center (Riley Taylor’s recipe). Serving begins around 10:30 a.m. Cost is $20 for a gallon and $5 for a bowl, which includes drink and dessert.

– At Burns Nursing Home from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., sponsored by the Russellville Civitans Nov. 21. Stew will be cooked by O’Neal King. Cost is $10 for a quart, $16 for two quarts, $20 for three quarts and $24 for four quarts. Proceeds will benefit the Civitan International Research Center at UAB.
