Watermelon Festival 5K to benefit majorettes

The annual Watermelon Festival 5K and one-miles fun run will be held Aug. 15 with registration beginning at 6:45 a.m.

Pre-registration fee is $20 for the 5K and $15 for the fun run. That rises to $25 and $20, respectively, for day of registration, which will be held in front of the field house at the RHS track.

The 5K will begin at the RHS baseball, run in the vicinity of RHS campus and finish with a lap on the RHS track.

Each pre-registered participant of the run will receive a Watermelon Run T-shirt. Participants who register the morning of will receive a T-shirt based on availability.

Awards for the 5K will include: top three best overall times, top male and female (not eligible for age group awards), Master Male and Female Over 40 (not eligible for age group awards) and first, second and third place awards for the top male and female in each age group: 0-10, 11-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+.

Awards will also be given for the fun run as follows: top three finishers for male and female age groups, 0-6, 7-9, 10-12, 13-16.

“This is their major fundraiser that they use to buy uniforms, and they have bought new uniforms for the Friday night shows,” said Angela Crittenden, majorette sponsor. “That’s what they’re going to use this money for – so they can sparkle.”

To pre-register, forms must be submitted by Aug. 13.
