First responders swarmed the intersection of Highway 13 and Highway 43 Monday mid-morning after the collision of an 18-wheeler for Coca-Cola and a passenger vehicle.

Phil Campbell Fire Department, Phil Campbell Rescue, Franklin County Sheriff Department, Frog Pond Volunteer Fire Department and a state trooper were on the scene. PC Fire Chief Mike Rice said the two occupants of the motor vehicle, an adult male driver and a young male passenger, were transported to Russellville Hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured.

Rice said it appeared the 18-wheeler was traveling south on Highway 43 when the other vehicle attempted to turn onto Highway 13 from Highway 43 South, at the intersection where Yogi’s Raceway is located in Spruce Pine.

State Trooper Tim Beecham handled the scene.
