Franklin County Cattlemen’s Association awards city, county scholarships

The Franklin County Cattlemen’s Association recently awarded their annual scholarships to deserving seniors in both the city and county school systems.
County president Steven Smith said the Franklin County Cattlemen presented 26 scholarships this year from their scholarship fund and one additional scholarship – the Thomas Harbin Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by the family of the late Thomas Harbin. Harbin was a long-time county director and an honorary lifetime director of the state association.
“We are honored to be in the position to provide scholarships for students of Franklin County and to serve the membership that supports our association and our efforts to promote the beef industry,” Smith said.
Past president Orland Britnell said the cattlemen are proud to be able to give such a large number of scholarships to local seniors, also expressing a special thank you to the community for supporting the cattlemen organization throughout the year by purchasing the rib-eye steak sandwiches.
“We look forward to continuing to raise money for our young people in the years to come,” Britnell said.
The 2015 Franklin County Cattlemen Scholarship recipients:
– Belgreen: Megan Nicole Britnell, Cristal Castillo and Benjamin Inman
– Phil Campbell: River Dolan and Meaghan Hardy
– Red Bay: Tanner Cash, Danielle Hastings, Hannah McKinney and Jeffery Kyle Reid
– Russellville: Lynsi Bragwell, Jacob Green, Morgan Hovater, Sam Lynch, Savannah Mills, Ryan Mitchell, Daniel Pitt, Madelynn Price and Angela Woods
– Tharptown: Clay Hodge, Caitlin Potter, Michael Rice and Savannah Robinson
– Vina: Hannah Baggett, Emily Emerson, Larry “Hunter” Haithcock, Morgan Humphries and Savannah Smith.
Morgan Hovater of Russellville High was the recipient of the Thomas Harbin Memorial Scholarship given by family and friends of the late Thomas Harbin. Morgan also received the Alabama Cattlemen’s Foundation “Tag for Greatness” Scholarship, funded through the sales of the “Cowboy Tag,” which is available at each county tag office.
Madelynn Price of Russellville High received a Franklin County Cattlemen Scholarship and was also the recipient of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association Two Year Endowment Scholarship.
“The Franklin County Cattlemen’s Association wants to congratulate each of the recipients of this year’s scholarships,” Smith said.
