Crews contain brush fire

Crews were dispatched to the scene a several-acre brush fire off of Franklin 144 close to Tharptown on Tuesday afternoon.

Russellville Fire Chief Joe Mansell said the fire, which spread up to 30-40 acres, was set to burn off brush and debris.  He said plow lines had been dug to contain the fire put it appeared the winds caused the fire to jump the lines and spread.

Russellville Fire Department, Tharptown Volunteer Fire Department, Blue Springs Volunteer Fire Department, and the Forestry Service were all assisting and were able to get the fire contained and extinguished several hours later.
