Letson announces candidacy for District 7 representative

Former State Representative Jody Letson, a Democrat from Courtland, announced last week that he is a candidate for the Alabama House of Representatives in District 7, which includes all or portions of Franklin, Lawrence, Morgan, and Winston counties.

Letson previously served in the Alabama Legislature for 14 years.

“We need a change, “ Letson said. “Over the past three years, we’ve lost thousands of jobs, seen attack after attack on our public schools and had our voices ignored in Montgomery. That is why I decided to run again.”

Letson said his campaign would focus on improving public education, creating jobs, and growing our economy, supporting small and local businesses and providing educators with a long-overdue cost of living pay increase.

“It’s about schools, and it’s about jobs. Those are the most important issues we are facing, and those are my priorities,” Letson said.

“I am dedicated to helping our schools, and bringing jobs and our tax dollars back home.”

Letson is a graduate of Courtland High School and attended Calhoun Community College. He is a member of the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce and is involved with a number of organizations, including the board of Mental Health, Cattlemen’s Association, the Boys and Girls Club of Hillsboro, and Lawrence County Historical Commission.

Letson and his wife, Diane, have a daughter, Kimberly. They are members of the Hillsboro Baptist Church. He has worked for General Motors, as well as Letson’s Grocery and the Letson Brothers’ Farm.

“I have lived in this community my whole life, and I was proud to represent the people of this district,” Letson said.

“That is why I decided to run again. Because we need someone who will be our voice in Montgomery, and not Montgomery’s voice to us.”
