BELGREEN — The Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats and Tharptown Lady Wildcats junior varsity teams entered into the final of the 2013 Franklin County Junior Varsity Softball Tournament  with hopes of winning it all.

After other tournament play it came down to the two, and Phil Campbell had the advantage of being in the winner’s bracket.

Tharptown would have to win two straight to take home the first-place trophy, but the hitting of the Lady Bobcats made sure only one game was necessary.

Phil Campbell won 14-5 in the five-inning game thanks to a solid performance at the plate.

“These girls set a goal at the beginning of the season, and that was to win the county tournament,” Phil Campbell assistant head coach Doug Jackson said.

“The girls worked hard on the proper technique of hitting the ball, and they worked hard all year.”

It was Tharptown that put the first runs of the game on the board in the top of the first inning.

Darla Smith hit a RBI triple      followed by a RBI single by Cara Ergle.

The Lady Bobcats did not take long to respond with five runs of their own in the bottom of the first.

Leeah Jackson reached base and eventually stole home plate on a wild pitch.

Regan Roberts brought in a run on a sacrifice, the Darby Elliott scored picked up another on a RBI double.

A RBI double by Harley Boyles and a RBI single by Karlee Ergle rounded out the inning.

The Lady Bobcats scored another run on an E-6 in the second inning followed by Alaina Jones stealing home plate on a wild pitch.

The Lady Wildcats came back to within two of the lead in the top of the third and fourth after a hit by Amelia Dawson brought in a run, a RBI single by Debbie Gomez and a run batted in on a fielder’s choice hit by Crystal Hargett.

Unfortunately for Tharptown these were the last runs it would score, and Phil Campbell would double its tally before the end of the game.

In the bottom of the fourth  Roberts picked up another RBI, Elliott had a two-RBI double and Chloe Robertson  stole home plate on a wild pitch.

Leeah Jackson hit a two-RBI triple to the left field wall in the bottom of the fifth, and the final run of the game sealed the outcome and victory for Phil Campbell.

The Lady Bobcats JV now has a 12-1 record on the year.
