Two arrested on theft, drug charges

A shoplifting call from a local business on Friday night resulted in the arrest of two county residents after drug paraphernalia and precursor substances were found in their possession.

James Alan Lindley, 42, 518 Meadow Dr., Red Bay, and Tamara Young White, 37, 194 Main St., Vina, were both charged with third-degree theft of property, attempt to manufacture a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

White was additionally charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to investigators, officers responded to a shoplifting call at a local business Friday night.

When officers went to the suspects’ vehicle to search for the stolen items, Lt. Scotty Lowery said the officers discovered additional items alleged to be used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Lowery said further investigation showed the defendants were allegedly purchasing the items to take to a third party who would them manufacture the meth.

Lowery said items of drug paraphernalia and a substance appearing to be meth were also found in the vehicle at that time.

Lindley and White both posted their bonds of $4,500 and $5,000 respectively.
