Local man charged with attempted kidnapping
A Russellville man was taken into custody Monday morning after witnesses claimed he broke into a residence and tried to kidnap his ex-girlfriend.
John James Common, 28, 307 St. Clair St., Russellville, was arrested on charges of first-degree burglary, second-degree theft of property, second-degree attempted kidnapping, first-degree theft of property, third-degree domestic violence and third-degree assault, officers said.
According to Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett, officers responded to a domestic call on North Jackson Avenue at 6:30 a.m. Monday where it was stated the suspect kicked in the door of the residence, assaulted two people in the home and had intentions of taking his ex-girlfriend with him to discuss several matters.
Investigators said when officers arrived on the scene, Commons was forcefully removing the girl in question from the residence.
When officers told him to stop, Hargett said Commons fled the scene through the back door of the house and led officers on a foot chance that ended when he was caught near the railroad tracks on Underwood Road.
Commons is in custody at the Franklin County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
