15 month-old girl killed in weekend crash

A 15-month-old Franklin County girl was killed in a two-vehicle wreck this weekend.

Angela Mejias, of Russellville, died in the wreck that occurred late Saturday night, investigators said. The wreck occurred at 10:45 p.m. Saturday on Franklin 34.

The child was in a car safety seat in the backseat of the vehicle when the wreck occurred.

A 14 year-old passenger in the vehicle was also injured. Jennifer Carreto, 14, of Russellville, was injured in the wreck and was being treated at an area hospital.

They were riding in a 2007 Ford driven by Norma Torres, 36, of Phil Campbell. Torres was not injured, troopers said.

Her vehicle and a vehicle driven by Donna Huckaba, 42, of Phil Campbell, collided, according to troopers. Huckaba, who was in a 2004 Ford, was not injured.

Nobody else was injured in the wreck.
