Man arrested after starting fire in home

A local man remains in custody after setting a living room table on fire and violating the conditions of a previous bond.

Christopher Earl Miles, 25, 194 Vaughn Road, Russellville, has been charged with third-degree arson, third-degree domestic violence and reckless endangerment, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department officials said.

According to investigators, 911 dispatch received a call about 4:45 a.m. on Friday and could only hear someone playing “Jailhouse Rock.”

The caller hung up without saying anything but then called back to report that his house was on fire.

Deputies were dispatched to the residence on Vaughn Road where they smelled smoke coming from inside the residence.

Deputies found Miles inside the home near the living room table, which had been burned. Officers at the scene also found chemicals near the table, officials said.

Deputies also discovered that Miles’ mother was in the home at the time, which was a violation of Miles’ bond condition in a domestic violence case where his mother was involved.

Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said that he has filed a motion to revoke the defendant’s bond and expects the hearing to be set in the next few days.

Miles is in custody in the Franklin County Jail on a $2,500 bond.

However, Rushing said that based on the facts of this case and of the domestic violence case, the state is trying to prevent Miles from being released from jail until a mental evaluation can be performed.
