Christmas event, parade planned for Thursday

The annual “Every Light A Prayer For Peace” will be sponsored by the Cultura Garden Club. This year’s celebration will be on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 4:30 p.m. on the steps of the Franklin County Court House. This event will be prior to the Christmas parade which begins at 6 p.m.

Groups involved in participating in this special event are: the RHS Choir, RMS Choir, and the RES 5th Grade Chorus. The RHS JROTC will post the colors and the pledge will be led by the Cub Scout Pack #39. Rev. Wade Wallace of Calvary Baptist Church will provide the message and prayer. Madeline Mitchell, Miss Alabama USA will present the “Light A Candle” poem. Club members will pass out candles while the combined choirs sing “Let There Be Peace On Earth.” Everyone is invited to attend this event.

Immediately following the Christmas parade the Cultura Garden Club will sponsor a reception honoring Madeline Mitchell at the Russellville City Hall. The public is invited.

To add to the downtown holiday decorations, the Cultura Garden Club members have also decorated the Russellville City Hall for the holidays with trees and garland of pine, red ribbons, bows, and poinsettias. Every year they decorate the city hall giving it a festive appearance.
