Bobcats beat Tharptown 99-84

THARPTOWN — The first half of the game was a back-and-forth affair with five lead changes. The second half of the game saw one lead change as Phil Campbell turned a 2-point halftime deficit into a 99-84 victory at Tharptown.

The game was not only high scoring, but also physical as both teams combined for a total of 49 fouls.

Phil Campbell coach Will Copeland was pleased with what he saw from his players, five of which reached double-digit scoring.

“That’s what we have to do,” Copeland said. “We’ve got to get everybody to contribute.”

Tharptown built a 12-8 lead early, but the Bobcats finished the first quarter with a 16-3 run to put Phil Campbell ahead 24-15.

Tharptown fell behind by as many as 11 points, but chipped away at Phil Campbell’s lead throughout the second quarter. Kelby Hallmark, who led the Wildcats with 26 points, sank a 3-pointer to give Tharptown a 43-41 lead at halftime.

The Wildcats extended the lead to 52-47 before the Bobcats began a 9-0 run to take the lead for good and push their lead to 73-61 by the end of the third quarter.

Phil Campbell reached 99 points with a little more than three minutes remaining in the game, but could not reach the 100-point mark. Tharptown closed out the game on an 8-0 run.

Skeeter Benford scored a game-high 27 points for Phil Campbell while Colton Vickery added 20. Also scoring for the Bobcats were Jordan Benford (14), Cameron Harris (13), Corey Alexander (13), Jeremy Reed (6) and Ben Stancil (5).

Wade Berryman had 17 points for Tharptown while Kent Allen added 12 points. Also scoring for the Wildcats were Wesley Borden (9), Jacob Parker (5), Nathan Gray (5), Will Washington (5) and cody Cagle (4).

Tharptown 76, Phil Campbell 65

The Lady Wildcats had three players score more than 20 points at Tharptown topped Phil Campbell.

There were six lead changes during the first half, but Tharptown took control midway through the second quarter to pull away for good.

Kendra Baker scored a game-high 27 points for the Lady Wildcats while Kamri Sears added 25 points and Chloe Lane scored 20 points. Also scoring for Tharptown were Kasey Baker (2) and Kirsten Nolan (2).

Amber Chaney led the Lady Bobcats with 17 points while Whitley Yocum added 14 and Taylor Scott scored 11. Also scoring for Phil Campbell were Ciara Harville (9), Sarah Hilliard (7) and Autumn Thomas (6).
