Woman struck by truck, killed
A Russellville woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle while walking down Waterloo Road on Wednesday evening.
Ana Rocha Terrero, 57, 701 Marlin Street, was pronounced dead at Russellville Hospital where she was transported following the accident.
The accident occurred at 5:15 p.m. on Waterloo Road between High and Cotaco streets, officials said.
According to witness statements, Terrero was walking south in the southbound lane of Waterloo Road, headed for her son’s house before going to church, and was a few feet into the roadway when she was hit.
A Russellville man driving a red 2007 Ford F-150 pickup came over a small hill in the road on his way to church.
Because it was already dark at the time, the man did not see Terrero in the roadway until it was too late, officials said.
Investigators said he tried to swerve but there was no way to avoid hitting her.
According to officials, a helicopter landed near the scene of the accident to transport Terrero to Huntsville Hospital but medical personnel at the scene were unable to stabilize her for the flight so Terrero was transported from the scene by ambulance to Russellville Hospital.
The man driving the pickup was not injured, but the impact of the collision cause significant damage to the hood of his truck.
Authorities with the Russellville Police Department said the investigation of the accident is still on-going but no charges are expected to be filed.
