Two men stabbed during robbery

Two people are in custody after an altercation led to a stabbing at a Franklin County residence late Monday night. 

Wayne Allen Guthrie, 44, 2435 Bluff Canyon Road, Tuscumbia, is charged with two counts of first-degree assault, first-degree robbery, unlawful possession of cocaine and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Laurel Staggs May, 40, 100 Marion St., Apartment B-4, Russellville, is charged with first-degree robbery and two counts of first-degree assault, according to investigators with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

According to authorities, law enforcement was called about 11 p.m. to a residence at 4977 Franklin 56 where a man had been stabbed.

When authorities arrived, they discovered Neil Larkins, 30, of Phil Campbell, and his brother-in-law, Michael Jordan, 24, of Leighton, had both been stabbed multiple times in the side, back, arm and shoulder.

According to officials, Guthrie and May are accused of luring Larkins to the residence on Franklin 56 where they robbed him at knife-point and stole a necklace, some cash and a cell phone that Larkins’ had borrowed.

After the defendants left the scene, Larkins called family members and then called the defendants in an effort to recover the borrowed cell phone they had taken, investigators said.

When the defendants returned to the scene, an altercation took place, which led to Larkins and Jordan being stabbed by the alleged defendants, officials said.

Authorities said Larkins is in the intensive care unit at Huntsville Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

Jordan was taken to Russellville Hospital where he was treated and later released.

Both Guthrie and Staggs are in custody at the Franklin County Jail without bail at this time.
