Supreme Court nominee visits county
Edwards, originally from Wetumpka, Ala., and a current attorney in Montgomery, is running for Supreme Court Justice Place 2 with the purpose of making a difference in Alabama.
“When I am elected I plan to bring integrity, balance and impartiality to the court,” Edwards said.
“Over the last two decades, Wall Street brokers, insurance companies and out-of-state corporations have pumped in millions upon millions of dollars into Alabama’s Supreme Court races.
Edwards added that it is time for a fresh start for Alabama.
“These contributions, coupled with untold troublesome decisions by the court, have created a shameful perception that the court can be and has been bought,” Edwards said. “It is time to remove the cloak of shame from our state’s highest court.”
During Edwards’ first campaign trip to the area, he visited the Franklin County Courthouse where he shared his feelings about his reasons for running for office.
“I’m not running because of the opportunity this position could bring to me,” Edwards said. “As a lawyer and Alabama citizen, I’m frustrated with the Supreme Court and their tendency to cater to the interests of international companies over Alabama citizens. Enough is enough.”
Edwards described his campaign experience as incredible and said he has enjoyed getting to meet new people throughout Alabama.
“These people are important,” Edwards said.
“My top priority as a justice will be to promote justice for all who come before the court, whether an individual or a business, and to bring Alabama family values and understanding to the legal system.”
