Local garden club working to beautify downtown

Club members, along with friends and family, the Franklin County Extension Service, Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, and Franklin County Youth Leadership volunteers painted and planted 28 pots, including six on the steps of the Franklin County Courthouse.  Perennials were planted in a flower garden in front of the Russellville City Hall.

To help beautify downtown Russellville, the planting and upkeep of flowers with be a continuing club project.

Pansies will be places in the pots for the winter and new flowers will be planted for the summer.

Members hope to add hanging baskets next summer, also.

Donations of money and supplies were donated by the Russellville Merchant’s Association, Franklin County Extension Service, Book Lovers Study Club, and the Franklin Chamber of Commerce.

The Russellville Fire Department and downtown businesses help in keeping the plants watered.

Cultura Garden Club, a member of Federated Garden Clubs of Alabama, is a small group of 11 members.  The cost per pot for a year’s planting is approximately $50, so club members will be participating in fundraisers for the ongoing project and asking for donations from community civic clubs, groups, and individuals wanting to help.
