Authorities looking for escaped inmate
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department is still searching for a pre-trial detainee being held at the Franklin County Jail who escaped about 2 p.m. Saturday.
Amner Figueroa, 23, an undocumented resident of Guatemala, was being held at the jail on charges of enticing a child for immoral purposes and interference with custody after he attempted to entice a seven-year-old child into a restroom at a Red Bay youth football game in September.
According to authorities, Figueroa escaped by going over a razor wire fence in the exercise area. He is believed to be injured but officials do not know to what degree.
Franklin County Sheriff Larry Plott said correction officers pursued Figueroa as far as the Mike Green Industrial Park before losing track of him. State helicopters and dogs were also used in the search.
Figueroa is described as a Hispanic male being 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing gray sweatpants and a T-shirt. Plott also cautioned that Figueroa could be changing his appearance.
The FCSD is offering a reward for information leading to the apprehension of this suspect. Anyone with information of his whereabouts is urged to call the FCSD at their 24-hour number, 256-332-8820, or any local law enforcement agency.
