Man accused of stealing from acquaintance

A Russellville man is in custody after being arrested by investigators with the Russellville Police Department on theft and burglary charges.

Anthony Spurgeon, 50, 206 N. Coffee Ave., Russellville, was arrested Wednesday and charged with second-degree burglary, a Class B felony, and second-degree theft of property, a Class C felony.

According to authorities with the RPD, the victim was outside of her home when she noticed that someone else seemed to be inside.

When she entered the residence, she discovered the defendant was an acquaintance and she spoke with him briefly.

After the defendant left the residence, the victim discovered cash and credit cards missing from her purse as well as prescription medication, officials said.

The victim reported the case to the RPD and after an investigation, warrants were issued for the charges and the defendant was arrested.

Spurgeon is still being detained in the Franklin County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
