Imagene “Jeanne” West Fortenberry, 81, of Haleyville, Ala. passed away peacefully from this life Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at Rose Manor Assisted Living Facility.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 13, 2010 at First United Methodist Church in Haleyville with Rev. John Verciglio officiating.  Burial was in Littleville Cemetery.

She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend.  She treasured her many years as an educator.  Above all, she loved her family, her friends and her church.  She will be sorely missed by all who loved her.

She was a native of Haleyville, retired teacher and a member of First United Methodist Church in Haleyville.  She enjoyed her many years of service in the American Legion Post 33 Auxiliary and after her retirement from teaching, loved time spent volunteering at her church.

She is survived by one son, Jeffrey Lynn Fortenberry and wife, Jess, of Cullman, Ala.; twin daughters, Kathy Gamble and husband, Gary, of Florence, and Karen Knight and husband, Don, of Douglasville, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ila Aderholt; her sisters, Eleanor Norris and Juanita Wear; and her husband of 54 years, H.C. Fortenberry.

The family requests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, 2207 Ninth Ave., Haleyville, Ala. 35565 or to a charity of your choice.
