Community takes initiative in fight against crime

It is hard not to pick up a newspaper or watch the evening news without noticing a growing number of crimes in communities throughout Alabama.

Citizens of Jonesboro have come together to try and prevent the epidemic from spreading into their community located in north-central Franklin County.

Jonesboro residents have bonded together to form a neighborhood watch program.

In these tough times crime can pop up anywhere. We are also living in times when people tend to look out only for themselves.

It is refreshing to see a group of concerned neighbors recognize that by protecting the entire community each of the individual homes and residents of that community are protected.

Many communities have had neighborhood watch programs for years, and while it is not fool-proof, it is a deterrent to crime.

It is tough not to focus on your own family these days, but a little community spirit goes a long way.
